Sources Cited

Every article on HealthCoachJP carries a Sources cited badge. This page explains exactly what that badge means, what it does not mean, and where our figures come from.

What “Sources cited” means

It means the factual claims in the article – calories, protein, sodium, dosages, costs, statistics, clinical guidance are taken from a named primary source, and that source is listed at the bottom of the article so you can check it yourself.

What it does not mean

It does not mean the article has been reviewed by a doctor. HealthCoachJP does not currently retain a licensed clinician to review its content. Our writers are health and nutrition writers, not physicians, dietitians or other registered practitioners, and nothing on this site is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a treatment plan.

If we contract qualified reviewers in future, we will name them individually on the articles they review, with their credentials and the date of review. Until that happens, no article on this site claims medical review.

Where our figures come from

What we will not do

  • We do not use third-party nutrition aggregators. Their numbers routinely disagree with the manufacturer’s own label. We go to the brand or to USDA.
  • We do not publish a figure we cannot verify. If a brand does not publish a panel for a product line, we say so and tell you to read the packet, rather than printing a number we cannot stand behind.
  • We do not present a mechanism as a proven outcome. Preliminary or contested evidence is described as preliminary or contested.

Updates and corrections

The Last updated badge on each article shows the date that article was last edited. Product formulations, prices and guidelines change, so an older date means the figures should be checked against the current label or the current guidance.

If you find an error, tell us and we will correct it or remove the claim. Email info@healthcoachjp.org with the article link and, where possible, the source that contradicts us.
